In the life of the believer, there will certainly be desert seasons— times when we feel alone.
Once again, can I offer a perspective that you may not have heard before?
What if that sense of being alone, is actually an indication that you’ve been set apart — separated from the others, designated as different, chosen to be special, hand picked from among the bunch, specifically selected by God to be used for His exceptionally good purpose.
What if you misunderstood, misinterpreted, and misnamed what you are feeling?
What if loneliness is a lie? What if what you are feeling is not loneliness, but onliness (that is, only-ness)?
Being set apart is onliness.
Being marked by God for divine assignment is onliness.
However to be clear, onliness is not isolation. It is the acceptance that being set apart does not draw a crowd, it only draws the called. The latter is a much smaller group than the former.
And onliness requires you to see yourself not as a consumer, but as a contributor — you have much to offer to those around you, and to the world.
Can I encourage you to lean into your onliness. It’s not a punishment. It’s a privilege.
“You can be sure of this: The Lord set apart the godly for himself. The Lord will answer when I call to him.” Psalms 4:3 NLT
“I never joined the people in their merry feasts. I sat alone because your hand was on me…” Jeremiah 15:17 NLT
